Quiet Lightning: The Greenhouse Effect

Mon, 09/02/2013 - 7:00pm - 10:00pm

Tickets: $5.00 - $10.00 (sliding scale) sold at the door

On Monday, September 2, Quiet Lightning returns for another evening of readings at the Conservatory, in their series called The Greenhouse Effect. The ever-growing group puts on a literary show each month, accepting submissions of all forms of writing and assembling. Performers are chosen via a blind selection process and rotating curators, and the upshot is a literary "mixed tape" that is performed without introductions or banter, and published in a book that comes with the price of admission. The shows are captivating: patterns of language morph, leitmotifs emerge into a mosaic of spells cast by different magicians (in the form of professors, award-winning authors, first-time performers, the shy, the fameless).

This year, Quiet Lightning has been teaming up with a different literary organization each month for a Tour Through Town: 826 Valencia, SomArts’ Feast of Words, Porchlight storytelling, the Studio One Reading Series in Oakland, the Contemporary Jewish Museum, and The Rumpus. The Greenhouse Effect is their anchor series, and we are very excited to welcome them "home" to the Conservatory again!
